There is a somewhat natural progression of love, but honestly a lot of this is using your inferencing skillsfilling in the gaps of what isn’t said; reading in between the lines. Something is terribly wrong: Any description of the story would be a spoiler, so all I will say is that it was a good read, and whets my appetite for further reading of her work. Dec 28, Jim rated it really liked it. I feel as if I have to let this one simmer for ldssing while, and then read it again, as it seems like the kind of work where the second reading produces a completely different reaction in the reader.
It’s essentially a love story between two best friends and their young sons. Both of her parents were British: The award winning Adore by DorisLessinng is a story of love and relationships.
I don’t know if that statistic is true or not, but Adore is an example of the phenomenon. Ian is upset, and storms out. Two years later, Roz and Harold are divorced, and Roz and Lil have continued their secret affairs. It made me grateful for my friends that I have made by chance.
They agree that they both crossed a line, and that it can never happen again. The crux of this story is formed by the intersection of profound friendship, and how a mother’s child is seen as an extension of herself. Amis’ adolescent-tinged story is more readable and way more fun, but Lessing’s mature-themed adorf is much deeper.
Now they are in their 30s, each with a teenage son and find themselves single albeit for different reasons.
