I was very interested in the main character Ilse and her trials were nicely realistic and not glossed-over. She does not grant the child knowledge beyond reasonable exceptions.
Ilse is never on the inside and when she finally is…Raul wraps bernobicg her role to keep her from danger. The result is a believable character that has to honestly pawsion for the changes in her life. I hate myself for having picked up this book. Raul did not strike me as a romantic interest at all. I get that the maps will be the same for all the books, so they are a map of the ‘important’ places as viewed from the end of the series, BUT, some really major bernoibch happened on the way to some towns that they didn’t bother to mark on the map. This is a well-written and mature work, despite my personal distaste for the one aforementioned plot element, and the further books in the series are lined up in my to-read queue, though not perhaps at the top of the list passlon. Not only did it not really have anything to do with the book, but I am pretty sure the author doesn’t know what a “passion play” is. I wish we had learned more about some of the serving girls Lys and Rosel, for example and I hope we see more of the pazsion Nadine and certain misconceptions are remedied.
Bernobich impressively gives her characters license to fail, and to suffer the consequences of their failures. The other piece of advice that st I watched some tips from netgalley on how to make a better and more interesting review. If I had read it myself, I would never have picked up the book and the world would be a happier place.
